Job Description:

Cornhusker State Industries (CSI) is searching for a motivated leader to engage in building opportunity within our diverse production environment. The successful candidate oversees a CSI business unit directing the work of incarcerated workers. Must be customer focused and provide effective communication to all internal and external stakeholders.

Duties:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of processes for CSI business units to provide backup staff coverage for each operation.

  • Provide coverage for other business units/NDCS institutions as needed.

  • Schedule production to effectively and efficiently coordinate materials and manpower availability with work orders.

  • Plan, organize, assign, and direct inmate work activity. Hire, train and counsel inmate workers to meet established work performance standards and production requirements.

  • Review inmate work performance to determine appropriate promotions, demotions or training needs.

  • Determine raw materials required for work orders. Maintain inventory control.

  • Assure quality throughout the production process. Monitor the shop and equipment for maintenance and to maintain a safe work environment.

  • Record payroll data, production orders, purchases, inventory and other relevant data. Perform security-related duties to assure compliance with work policies and maintain accountability for workers, tools and chemicals.

  • Deliver, install, or repair furniture and products.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Experience in a skilled trade or manufacturing work similar to the production in the assigned shop OR graduation from a vocational technical school relevant to the production process employed. No felony or domestic abuse related convictions.

Preferred Qualifications: Equipment maintenance experience. Minimum of two years of experience in a manufacturing production environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Other: Must have a valid Class B CDL or the ability to obtain one within 90 days after completion of the Corrections Training Program. - Some overtime and overnight stays required. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.
